Whether you’re an adventure seeker or an aimless wanderer, there are a number of pursuits for you to enjoy while you are in or around Tarbert.

The village itself is host to an array of shops and galleries, some of which you can see the artists at work. Having indulged in a spot of retail therapy, you could stretch your sea legs a little further on one of the pleasant walks around the village.

Following the road beyond the East Pier, you will eventually arrive at Shell Beach – a tiny cove made up entirely of broken scallop shells, overlooking Portavadie. Head in the opposite direction, on the North side of the harbour, through a forest trail starting at the end of Garval road, you will emerge on White Shore. The sheltered bay gets its name from the white sands visible at low tide and is perfect spot for a picnic or a paddle!

Of course, a visit to Tarbert would not be complete without a walk up to the Royal Castle, famous for its connection to Robert the Bruce. From here, more strenuous walks take you up the hill via the Corranbuie Trail, offering spectacular views across the loch. This is also the start of the famous Kintyre Way, which winds its way along the peninsula.

Tarbert is also on the Argyll Sea Kayak Trail, and opportunities to hire canoes, try stand-up paddle boarding or learn to wind-surf are available at West Loch. RIB boat tours depart from the marina, as well as dive charters.

Harbour Staff will be happy to help or advise you further about local attractions and activities.
